Message in a bottle by Raquel Cabrita

message in a bottle

Hi! My name is Raquel and I’m shipwrecked on a remote island. There is no hope of being rescued, so I want you to know my story.
I’m fourteen years-old, I’m Portuguese and I live on a small village called Mação. I used to play football, listen to music and play computer games. I saw a lot of movies and read a lot of books. I used to write too. But I would never imagine that I would end up in a tale like this.
I left from Lisbon, Portugal, with Japan as destiny. On the twenty-third day of the expedition, a huge and violent storm split our ship in two. I don’t know what happened next. I only remember waking up on the beach the following day.
I haven’t found anyone from the ship’s crew but I know they’re here, somewhere. I can’t have been the only survivor. And I hear people talking, sometimes, but I never find them.
Believe me or not, I’m not crazy. This island, however, is …

I’ve been here for only a week and I’ve noticed … things. The climate on the island is pretty good, like summer every day. But I’m pretty sure I saw snow in the mountains. It’s strange … But I can’t explain the storms either.
So, besides the whole freak show I’ve seen around here, I guess my greatest problem are the wolves. And the freaky guys, those from the freak show. I think they are survivors like me but from other ships – I saw a lot of shipwrecks on the beach. I haven’t made contact yet. They seem dangerous. But it might be only paranoia …
I miss home. I miss my family, my friends and even school. I miss my sister. I hope you’re all okay. I’m fine too. Well, besides the whole lost  on  a  remote  island with  no  hope  of  rescue because  of  the  storms thing. I’m surviving rather well but I still think that I need a real meal instead of the poor animals hunted with bow and arrow. I miss you all and I’m waiting for the day I can see you again.
