Saul Hudson, better known as Slash, was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, July 23, 1965.
His mother, Ola Hudson was an African-American woman born in Tennessee, who worked as a costume designer for David Bowie and many other actors and musicians, and his father, Anthony Hudson, was a painter who created album covers for musicians like Neil Young.
When he was very young, Slash moved to Los Angeles, California. A couple years later, his parents separated.
Since Slash was a baby, he had a major musical influence because his parents were big fans of rock music, and over the years, he listened to bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton among others.
His musical school teacher was the first major influence for him to play the guitar.
As a teenager, Slash had many problems with drugs and alcohol due to some problems, such as parents’ divorce, disinterest in school and being the new kid in town.
In 1983, he formed his first band, Road Crew, with a childhood friend Steven Adler. After Road Crew, he had a lot of bands but in 1985 he and Steven Adler were invited to join with Axl Rose, Duff McKagan and Izzy Stradlin as the band Guns N’ Roses.
Guns N’ Roses was the band where Slash got greater visibility in the music world.
Guns N’ Roses was one of the biggest bands of the eighties but the eccentric habits of the singer, Axl Rose, made the few original band members move out.
This way, Slash left Guns N’ Roses in 1996 from not having a good relationship with Axl Rose, because he devalued his work and let in a new guitarist in the band and made him the lead guitarist, a place occupied by Slash.
In April 2010 Slash released his first solo album, called Slash featuring different singers from many bands.
Despite his problems with drugs and alcohol for several years, now Slash is clean, because now he is a father and that abuse took him several times to the hospital, once even close to death.
