Norma Jean Baker better known as Marilyn Monroe was an American actress who was born on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles.
Norma Jean spent most of her childhood at homes and orphanages until 1937, when she moved to the house of a family friend.
She married Jimmy Dougherty when she was 21 years old and they were very happy together until he joined the Navy. Then Norma Jean took a job at the Radio Plane Munitions factory and it was there that she met a photographer who invited her to work as a model. She began studying the work of legendary actresses and enrolled in drama classes with dreams of stardom.
Marilyn began her career with a few small films, but her ability for comedy, her sensuality and her presence on screen, led her to win roles in blockbuster movies, making her one of the most popular movie stars of the 50s.
Marilyn’s first role in film was an unaccredited participation in “The Shocking Miss Pilgrim”, 1947. That same year she played a small but influential role in John Huston’s thriller “The Asphalt Jungle” and the role of Claudia Caswell in “All About Eve”, having received many compliments. From there, she participated in such films as “As Young as you Fell”, “Monkey Business”, and “Do not Bother to Knock”. However, it was her performance in “Streams of Passion”, by Henry Hathaway, which made her a star.
At the age of 36, Marilyn died in her sleep at her home in Brentwood, California.

Marilyn is one of Hollywood’s most famous sex symbols though she was often unhappy. She died, perhaps accidentally after taking too much medicine to help her sleep.
